      Glow discharge technique as a sensitive method for the direct analysis of solid sample has gained rapid development in recent years. The progresses of glow discharge technique as an analytical light source for atomic spectroscopy have been reviewed. The design of new discharge lamp and the achievement in the applications as detectors have been also described.
